BLUE STOCKINGS
A new play by Jessica Swale
1897. Girton College, Cambridge.
Ridiculed, demeaned and deemed unfeminine, the first female students were dismissed as freaks, lesbians or outcasts. Until one feisty group of female pioneers lay everything on the line for the right to graduate.
The girls read the same books, sit the same exams and achieve same marks. But at the end of the year they are expected return to their kitchens and husbands without so much as a piece of paper to acknowledge their achievements.
But perhaps this is the year when everything changes.
Red Handed is currently developing BLUE STOCKINGS with the National Theatre Studio and in colllaboration with RADA.
First Reading date to be announced soon.
